The annual Trafalgar Day Service of Commemoration was held on Saturday 19th October 2019. This remembers the Victory by Lord Nelson over the French and Spanish fleets in 1805. The event is arranged by the Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men and was held in St Andrew’s Church in Deal.
The Service was conducted by Fr Roger Marsh, with the readings telling the story of Nelson and the Battle of the 21st October 1805. The Prayer of the Royal Marines was citied by our own Bob Davies RMA member, and the Wrens prayer given by Judy Hardy. John Elms gave the Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph was given by Malcolm Gibbons.
Seven standards were on parade with ‘Dusty’ Miller carrying the RMA one and Gerry Bowers with the GBA standard.
A number of wreaths were laid including those of the Deputy Lieutenant of Kent Bill Fawcus; David Fagg from the RNA, the Mayor of Deal Councillor Eileen Rowbottom, John Elms from the Downs RBL Branch and Malcolm Gibbons the Chairman of the Burma Star Association.
