2019 Remembrance

The annual Remembrance Service was held at Deal and Walmer Hospital on the 10th November at 1050 am. It was a bright but cold November day and there was an excellent turnout of RMA members, with both Royal Marine and Wren contingents on parade.

The Service was led by Padre John Lines MBE and following the chimes of Big Ben at 11 am, the Last Post and Reveille was played by our own WO1 Andy Cornish RM. There were 11 standards on parade, including those of the local scout group and the RMA standard was carried by ‘Dusty’ Miller.

A number of wreaths were laid including those by the Deal Mayor Eileen Rowbotham, another by a representative of our local MP, and then other councilors and organisations. A wreath was laid by the RMA Chairman Paul Richardson and on behalf of Deal Wrens by Karen Snowden. Music for the service was provided by the Snowdown Colliery Brass Band.

The parade then fell in for a short march and review by Mr Bill Fawcus DL – all well organized by the parade marshall Mr Julian De Zille.

Groups then retired back to the RMA for a buffet and other liquid refreshments.

A service of Remembrance was also held on the 11th November at the War Graves Memorial at Hamilton Road Cemetery. This service was also led by Padre John Lines MBE and there was a small number of RMA members in attendance, including our President Colonel David Storrie OBE.

The RMA standard was carried by ‘Dusty’ Miller and the GBA standard by Gerry Bowers. A wreath was laid on behalf of the RMA by Paul Richardson and by Anita Walton for the Wrens contingent. There were a significant number of children from local schools at the service which was a pleasure to see. Music for the service was provided by the Victory War Time Band and again refreshments were provided afterwards at the RMA.
