As many of you will be aware the upstairs room at the RMA has been undergoing an extensive renovation. This started slowly but surely, funded through our local RMA monies, and hugely supported by the efforts of a small number of RMA members who freely gave their time, expertise and labour.
Following on from the merger of the national RMA and RM Charity, we were able to make a grant application to fund the rest of the project so it could be completed ready for the Memorial Band Day this July. A grant of £17,386 was subsequently agreed from the Armed Forces Covenant Veteran’s Centre Fund, one of the first grants agreed by this fund. This assisted with finishing this room, updating the kitchen and further planned improvements at the Deal RMA.
The newly named Gibraltar Room was officially opened on Saturday 13th July at 7pm. The ribbon was ably held by our Chairman Paul Richardson, and cut by Col David Storrie OBE, President of the RMA and WO1 Corps RSM Dave Mason – watched over by Jonathan Ball CEO of the RM Charity. The room was packed with both RMA members and the group who were first to use the room in an official capacity – the Former RMBS Musicians, virtual branch members, holding their inaugural meeting. A toast was raised by all, with the obligatory photograph, and it is anticipated the function room and new carvery will be welcome and well used facilities.
