A good contingent of our Deal Royal Marines Association members took part in the parade and service for Armed Forces Day on the 30th June 2019. The event was held on the apron of Deal pier with the service conducted by the Revd. Dr Stephen Edward Young, Deputy Priest in Ordinary to HM the Queen.
Thirteen standards were on parade with ‘Dusty’ and ‘Timber’ carrying the branch standards. There were a number of cadet units in attendance, as well as a small section of WRNS veterans. Music was provided by the Deal Brass Academy Band, and the TS Lynx Sea Cadet Band led the march past. The service included the Last Post and Reveille from WO1 ‘Pastie’ Cornish RM, the Kohima Epitaph and the Royal Navy hymn.
A number of local dignitaries were in attendance, and following the service the parade marched along the promenade to the Timeball Tower, where the salute was taken by Alan Watson (SCC) CPO RN ret.
It was then time for members to retreat to the RMA where a buffet reception was provided, and welcome shade from the hot weather.
Thanks to all those who made the day a success
