This years Armed Forces Day was celebrated in Deal on 24 June 2018 with a parade and service on the apron of our pier. Seventeen Standards were paraded with our regular bearer ‘Dusty’ carrying the Branch Standard.
A fine sunny day ensured a good turnout of veterans, cadet units and local dignitaries including our MP Charlie Elphicke. The service was conducted by Rev. John Lines MBE Chaplin to the Deal Branch ( Downs) RBL. The music was provided by the Deal Brass Academy Band and the TS Lynx Sea Cadet Band with the Bugle Calls sounded by CSgt ‘Pastie’ Cornish. The Parade Marshall was Mr Richard Purton, formally the RBL County Parade Marshall. John Elms carried the Union flag.
At the end of the service all those on Parade marched along the promenade where the Salute was taken by our town Mayor, Cllr Nick Tomaszewski.
On completion of the event a buffet reception was held in the club for which we thank our stewardess Sue.
