Deal towns main Act of Remembrance took place on Remembrance Sunday at 1050hrs on 12th November at the War Memorial Cross in the grounds of Deal Victoria Hospital.
Once again the service was conducted by the Reverend John Lines with Julian de Zille as Parade Marshall. The Branch Standard was paraded by ‘Dusty’ Miller, with the Green Beret Association (GBA) Standard carried by Gerry Bowers.
The music was provided by the Snowdown Colliery Band and C/Sgt ‘Pastie’ Cornish sounded ‘Last post’ and ‘Reveille’ from the balcony at the front of the Hospital.
Many wreaths were again laid, with our Chairman laying the Branch wreath, and ‘Timber’ Woods for the GBA. Our town Mayor laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Deal.
An excellent turn out of veterans, which included many Green Berets, members of the general public, school children, youth groups and Cadets and a very smart contingent of former Wrens, who of course this year are celebrating their 100 Anniversary.
At the end of the service a march took place, with the Piper, Alex Miller, and our President Col David Storey OBE leading the way to the Dias where the salute was taken by the Mayor Cllr David Cronk.
On completion of the event, a tot of rum and a superb buffet was laid on in the club and where a singer entertained us during the afternoon.
Once again many thanks to our stewardess Sue for the food, and thanks also to Katie, Lou and all our hard working bar staff.
