2017 Queen's Birthday Dinner

The Club held a ‘Ladies Night’ dinner to celebrate the 91st Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II in the main area of the club on Thursday 20th April 2017. This very special dinner was attended by forty six members and guests with our Branch President Col David Storrie OBE RM and his wife Linda in attendance on the top table.
The evening was started with a welcome by the Chairman Paul Richardson, followed by the saying of Grace by Bob Davies.
The superb four course meal was prepared and cooked by our stewardess Sue, and consisted of a starter of Smoked salmon pate or Melon with Parma ham, followed by the main course of Beef bourguignon or Chicken chasseur, and a sweet of Apple crumble or Fresh fruit salad. This lovely meal was rounded off by cheese and biscuits and finished with coffee and mints. Many thanks to Sue and all the serving staff.
The Toasts during the evening were, ‘Her Majesty the Queen’ proposed by our President, ‘The Royal Marines’ proposed by our Chairman, ‘Absent Friends’ proposed by ‘Dusty’ Miller, and ‘Our Ladies’ by the club secretary Bob Guest, who was also our MC for the evening.
We were privileged to have with us for the evening as the guest speaker, Rihian Potts, a former Wren who was with the very first batch of Wrens to serve at sea on HMS Brilliant in 1990, and who gave a very interesting and amusing talk about that time and later as a magistrate.
An evening enjoyed by all, which has grown in size over the last few years, and has become a regular and much looked forward to event.
