On the afternoon of Saturday 6th May 2017 three separate, but special presentations took place in the RMA Club.
The first was a presentation to Mike Baxter who has now stepped down from the management committee, lately as secretary, after many years involved in the Branch and Club. There is no doubt that without Mike at the helm, and with excellent support from many others, our Branch and club might not be here today. Our Chairman, Paul ‘Riggo’ Richardson, who made the presentation, thanked Mike for the massive contribution he has made
Secondly, the Chairman handed over a cheque, on behalf of the Sgts Mess pantomime, to former Royal Marine Andy Merry, who has recently been diagnosed with MS, who in the company of his son, brother and others will be climbing Mont Blanc in the Alps, to raise money for the MS Trust. The £500 presented will be split with £350 for that charity and £150 for the RM Charity.
Lastly, Jeff Knight presented to our secretary, ‘Pastie’ Cornish, a ‘Gavel Block’ which he had made especially for use in the club on special occasions , such as the Corps Dinner. It is made of oak, is four sided, and each side has a RM badge, the modern ‘Globe & Laurel’, the RM Artillery, the RM Light infantry, and a RM Band badge which was in use many years ago. Each badge is set into a roundel of RM Green Beret material.
