On the morning of 21 April our Branch Standards were paraded by Jimmy Greene and Bob Davies at a return visit to the Deal Parochial School, where in September last year the Stone G&L was dedicated, this time for the dedication service of 100 tree saplings planted to mark the 100 year anniversary of the outbreak of WW1. The school had also carried out a project to research the names, ranks and units of those who had attended the school and had been killed in the conflict. Two plaques were unveiled , one that contained all that information, and the year in which they had lost their lives, and the second to detail the many types of trees planted and the layout of what will be a woodland walk.
The list of names on the memorial plaque contains the names of three Royal Marines and two Royal Marines Light Infantry personal. A bugler from the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment was present to sound the ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’.
On completion of the service all were invited into the school for a tea and cake reception.
