2016 RM Band Visit

This years annual visit to Deal of the Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth (Royal Band) took place at the Memorial Bandstand on Walmer Green on Sunday 10 July.
The Band was once again conducted in the main by Lt Col Nick Grace OBE RM, who informed all those watching that next years concert would be his last as he would then be retiring from the Band Service.
The afternoon started rather damp, with light rain, but it did’nt dampen the spirts of the many thousands who packed onto the Green.
Pre-concert entertainment included the Victory Wartime Band, and the Dover and Deal Sea Cadet Band.
The first half of the concert was full of superb music, solo’s, and of course a fantastic display by the Corps of Drums. After the interval the skies cleared and remained dry for the second half, which included the rededication of the Bandstand which was led by the Reverend Seth Cooper.
The reading out of the names of those lost on that terrible day on 22 September 1989 was followed by the Last Post, the two minutes silence, and the laying of wreaths by family members present, and the many dignitaries, which included our Commandant General, Major General Robert Andrew Mcgowan CBE RM, and our MP Mr Charlie Elphicke.
