2016 Remebrance Services

Armistice Day
This years Act of Remembrance on 11 November took place at the War memorial Cross at the Hamilton Road Cemetery at 1100hrs.
There were six Standards on parade with our Branch Standard carried by ‘Dusty’ Miller and the GBA by Jimmy Greene. The service was conducted by the Reverend John Lines MBE, Chaplin to the Downs Branch of the RBL and the Parade Marshall was Julian de Zille RBL. The service was attended by our town Mayor and local dignitaries. The Bugler was Andy ‘Pastie’ Cornish.
The Branch wreath was laid by our Branch President Lt Col David Storrie OBE, and the GBA by ‘Timber’ Wood.
Many school children were present and laid wreaths, and we thank them for their attendance.
On completion of the service light refreshments were laid on in the Marines Club.

Remembrance Day
A few days later on Sunday 13 November, Deal towns main Act of Remembrance took place at the Memorial Cross in the grounds of the War Memorial Hospital.
Once again our Standards were paraded, with the GBA this time carried by Gerry Bowers. The service was conducted again by Rev John Lines and the Parade Marshall was Bill Howie. ‘Pastie’ Cornish did the honours by sounding the Bugle calls. The Branch wreath was laid by our Chairman Paul ‘Riggo’ Richardson, the GBA again by ‘Timber Wood, and Bob Davies laid a wreath on behalf of the George Cross Island Association ‘GCIA’
Our MP Charlie Elphicke was in attendance along with many local dignitaries and youth groups.
On completion of this service a march took place led by Piper, Alex Miller, a Drummer from
the Dover and Deal Sea Cadet Unit, and with the Downs Branch of the RBL Standard being carried by a member of the Deal Air Cadets, and with the salute being taken by Brigadier David Ralls CBE DFC DL. Deputy Lieutenant of Kent.
A tot of rum and light refreshments were made available in the Marines Club .
