2016 Flag Raising Ceremony

This years short, but important annual ceremony to raise the Union Flag on the flagpole inside the South Barracks housing estate, now known as Calvary Barracks, took place at 1100hrs on the first day of British Summer Time (BST) on Sunday 30th March.
The morning was overcast dry, and extremely windy, but the conditions didn't stop former Royal Navy man, Devrow Jennings getting the flag to the top, but not without a little difficulty!
Attending this years occasion were John Elms (Army) and Peter Hall and Bob Davies (RMs) and we were pleased to have with us again Bryan (Billy) Walker, former RM Musician who played the Bugle Calls, a very important part of the ceremony. Thank you Billy for your continued commitment.
As usual the ceremony was watched by many residents of the estate who come out and support us each year, and we thank you for that support.
On completion a drinks and buffet reception was held in the foyer of Ramsey House, previously the Wrens’ Quarters, and we thank Anny Elms for organising that.
We thank all who attended, and if any members feel that this special occasion is something that they would enjoy taking part in, remember it takes place every year on the first day of summer.
