2016 Band Bombing Service

The 27th Anniversary of the day the IRA murdered eleven talented musicians took place on 22nd September at 0820hrs, the date and time of the explosion in 1989.
This years Act of Remembrance, which takes place in the Garden of Remembrance in Canada Rd was, unlike last years service dry and fair.
The service was taken once again by Rev Jane Walker, brother of Msn Bob Simmonds, one of those killed on that terrible day. The Roll of Honour was read out by Lt Col Nick Grace, who also laid a wreath on behalf of the Band service. Many families and friends of those killed were in attendance, and wreaths and flowering tributes were laid, including one from the Mayor of Deal, Cllr David Cronk.
The Branch wreath was laid by our Chairman Mr Paul ‘Riggo’ Richardson.
Musicians from the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines played the music and supplied the two Bugler’s for the ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’.
On conclusion of the service hot drinks and bacon rolls were made available in the RMA Club, for which we thank our stewardess Sue.
Further wreaths have also been laid above the name plaques around the Memorial Bandstand.
