2015 WWI Tree Planting

WW1 Tree Planting Ceremony 2015
At 1400hrs on 6 March 2015, our Standards were present at Walmer Baptist Church to take part in a ceremony to honour and remember nine members of the congregation who were killed during WW1. There were 9 Standards present, with our Branch Standard carried by ‘Dusty’ Miller, the GBA by Jimmy Greene, and the RNA by Bob Davies. Pastor Seyan Till of the Church led the service, the ‘Last Post’ was sounded by former RM Nigel Bogue, and Councillor Pat Heath laid a wreath on behalf of the residents of Walmer.
The 9 trees planted can be seen from the road, and this living memorial will be known as the ‘WW1 Memorial Orchard’.
Of the nine who were remembered, 2 were Royal Marines, Lieutenant George Hollamby RMLI, aged 22, and Marine William Bennett, aged 17.

The others were, Bombardier Horace Arnold,26, Private Albert Barnes,30, Lance Corporal Bertram Burgess,21, Sapper George Green,28, Lance Corporal Arthur Holttrm,21, Signaller Stanley Solly,20, and Cinque Ports Pilot William Fletcher,42.
