2015 Trafalgar Day Service

A parade and service took place on Sunday 25 October 2015 to celebrate our victory over the combined French and Spanish Fleets at Trafalgar in 1805. The occasion is normally held on the day itself, the 21st, but this year was a very special event as it was organised jointly by the local branch of the Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men ‘AMKKM’ and the East Kent District of Sea Cadets.
At 1300hrs some 200 Sea and Royal Marine Cadets of all age groups, formed up on the green close to Deal Castle for an inspection by Brigadier M J Meardon RM DL FCM Receiver General,
Canterbury Cathedral, before marching off along the promenade under the direction of the Parade Marshall, Lt Cdr Kevin Martin RNR, to St George’s Church where the service was held.
Bob Davies and Mike Conn represented the Branch, and a contingent of Officers and Sailors from HMS Kent represented the affiliated ship. Ten Standards were present in the church which included the Standard of the Thanet Branch of the RMA carried by Ron Williams, and the Bugler was Bryan ‘Billy’ Walker. The service was conducted by the Reverend John Lines MBE.
On completion of the service wreaths were laid in the Garden of Rest at the Grave Stone of Captain Edward Parker, one of Lord Nelsons favourite young officers who died in Deal in 1801, after having been badly wounded in a sea battle off Boulogne earlier in the year.
A reception followed in the town hall which was sponsored by the town council.
