2015 Flag Raising

The short, but important yearly ceremony to raise the Union flag on the flag pole inside the South Barracks housing estate, now known as Calvary Barracks, takes place traditionally at 1100hrs on the 1st day of British summer time (BST). This years ceremony took place on Sunday 29th March. The early morning rain stopped shortly before, leaving an overcast, but dry period. We were pleased to have with us once again Bryan ‘Billy’ Walker, former RM musician who sounded the Bugle calls. The Union flag was raised by Devrow Jennings, assisted by John Hardy, both former members of the Royal Navy and who live on the estate. Also attending were John Elms and Mike Conn (Army), and Peter Hall and Bob Davies, (RMs). The occasion was watched by many residents of the estate who come out and support us every year. Thank you for that support.
On completion a drinks and buffet reception was held in the entry foyer to Ramsey House, previously used as the Wrens’ Quarters. Our thanks go to all who attended, with a special mention to Anny Elms and Sue Conn who laid on the reception.
