2015 Armed Forces Day

This years celebration of Armed Forces Day took place on Sunday 28th June with a Drumhead Service and Parade on the apron of our pier.
Another bright and sunny day saw a good turn out of dignitaries, including our MP Charlie Elphicke, veterans, and a parade of fifteen Standards. The Branch Standard was carried by ‘Dusty’ Miller, the Green Beret Association by Jimmy Green, and the Royal Naval Association by Bob Davies. The music was provided once again by the Snowdown Colliery Band, whom we thank for their continued support, and who also provided the Bugler, who played exceptionally well for someone so young.

The service was conducted by the Reverend John Lines MBE, and the Parade Marshall was Malcolm Wells. The Exhortation was recited by Mr Edward Barkway Chairman of the Downs Branch of the Royal British Legion, and the Kohima Epitaph by Peter Woods Chairman of the Burma Star Association.

The towns new Mayor Adrian Friend reviewed the Standard Bearers, veteran and youth groups, which included the Sea, Air, and Army cadets, before the parade marched off towards the Royal Hotel, where the salute was taken by the President of our Branch, Col David Storrie OBE RM.
On completion of the occasion a buffet reception was held in the RBL Social Club.

We wish to place on record our thanks to the Veterans Association of Deal, who organise this annual event.
